While your music or data is the most important element of your replication project, an eye-catching package will attract more interest and generate more sales.
Let's face it - if a potential buyer is not attracted to your project by the packaging, the chances of them ever opening it up and experiencing the content will be greatly diminished.
The design of your package is not a process to be taken lightly nor put off until the last minute. We see more projects get delayed due to graphic design errors than for any other reason.
Can I design the packaging myself?
Yes you can, but the way you convey those designs to Raintree is critical. Our advertised pricing assumes you will be providing complete electronic files, ready for press. To accomplish this, your design must be built from our templates in one of the following Mac or PC file formats:- Quark Xpress
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Photoshop
In addition, you must include all linked images and all fonts utilized in your design.
OK, I have one of those programs...
You can download design templates for your project from our template page. Each template has the proper specs built-in, and each contains specific instructions for building your layout.
Does Raintree accept other formats?
Maybe... We can accept some other formats, but you will be billed for any additional work necessary to convert your files to an acceptable format.
Take the Quiz!
If you aren't sure whether you are able to handle the tasks involved with generating ready-for-production files, or if you just want a few cheap laughs, try Mr. Fisky's Pre-Press Quiz. If you pass the quiz, you should be in good shape!
I have no idea what you're talking about!
In that case, you have two options - either hire an outside designer and direct them to our template page, or send your raw materials (photos, text, etc.) to us and we'll create your layout from scratch. |
If we create your layout, you'll be charged our regular graphic design rate. We can accept your raw elements in nearly any form, but here are some tips for making the process efficient:
Photos
Glossy prints scan the best. We can also accept negatives and transparencies, but there will be an additional scanning charge for these. For images you've already scanned, provide actual size .tif files, RGB color or grayscale, 300 dpi.
Line Art & Hand-drawn Artwork
If not in electronic form, send the best available hard copy (or original) you have.
Text Elements
Send as a plain text (.txt) file saved from either Notepad (PC) or Simple Text (Mac). Please avoid using line breaks or hard returns - just allow the lines to break naturally unless you specifically want a line break.
Fonts
These can be a bit tricky, and are one of the biggest causes for delays, but if you have a specific font you want us to use, you must provide us with the actual font files from your computer. Here's how:
- True Type fonts
Copy the .ttf file from your C:\Windows\fonts folder (PC) or from your System Folder\fonts folder (Mac).
- Type 1 fonts
If you use a PC, we need both the .pfm and the .pfb file associated with your font. For Mac users, we need both the screen font and the printer font.
How do I know I'll like design you create?
It's a good idea for you to give us at least a starting point for designing your layout, even if it's just a pencil sketch.
When we come up with something suitable, we'll post a version to a private area of our website that you can review with your web browser.
If you see changes that need to be made, we'll make corrections and post a revised version. This will continue until you are completely satisfied with your layout.
For an additional fee, we can also provide hard copy proofs before we go to press if you are critical on color.
